PASS PLUS is a training scheme for new drivers and should be considered an essential for newly qualified drivers. It's much more than just a few extra lessons as it provides the additional driver training for newly qualified drivers to give you more advanced driver training.

The Driving Standards Agency compiles statistics about drivers in all age groups. Their research identifies that newly qualified drivers are at more risk of being involved in an accident than any other drivers and that 20% of new drivers are involved in an accident in their first year of driving and that new drivers are involved in 25% of all fatal accidents.

This course has been specially designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry, to help you gain valuable driving experience safely. You will be taught how to deal with a wide range of road and traffic situations, some of which you probably won't have faced before and build on your existing skills and knowledge. Being alone in the car is very different from the time you have spent with your Driving Instructor and it is challenging to face new road situations, such as motorways, and deal with them in an appropriate and safe manner without positive guidance from someone qualified to give the right advice on how to handle those situations.

PASS PLUS consists of six practical modules which cover:

  • Module 1 Town Driving
  • Module 2 All Weather Driving
  • Module 3 Driving Out of Town
  • Module 4 Night Driving
  • Module 5 Driving on Dual Carriageways
  • Module 6 Driving on Motorways

There is no test at the end of it – your driving will be continually assessed and you must successfully complete all the modules in the course. Completing the Pass Plus course takes your driving to a higher standard and prepares you for driving alone.

Some Driving Schools may charge a higher rate for Pass Plus, but at Essandelle Driver Training Services we charge the same rate as we do for standard lessons.

You can complete this course any time within a 12 month period of successfully passing your Test. A minimum of six hourly lessons are required to complete the training. Once you have successfully completed the course the DSA will send you a certificate, which you should present to your Insurance Company to obtain the appropriate discounts.

When you have successfully completed the course, you are advised to check available discounts offered by the insurance companies taking part in the scheme. The amount you save will depend on the company you choose, you may even save more than you paid for the course.

If you passed your test more than a year ago you should check that you’ll be eligible for the discounts on offer from your insurance company before you take the course.

"The quality of the training to drive that Sean at Essandelle Driver Training gave, his patience, his ability to explain, his willingness to share his knowledge and experience. He's a really nice guy who inspires you to do better every time you get in the car.

I passed my test and now I'm doing Pass Plus - now I'm really going to the next level. Thank you Sean."
